Christmas is home!

After having John and Sherry from This Young House help me convince Eric that we needed a tree, he obliged and we went shopping today. It’s our first Christmas living together so we had NOTHING! It’s a bit of an expense this year, but it won’t be too bad the next ones, since we got [...]

Friday is for food - (Very) Frugal Garlic Soup

Well, this is our first real post and we’re late writing it! We meant to have it ready days ago, but nothing is getting done around here on time lately. This is our post for “Friday is for food” over at Almost Frugal Food.
Since winter is officially here (well, not officially, but you get the [...]

We’re back

After the saddest days of my life, we’re back. My grandma didn’t have enough strength left in her to battle the pneumonia that appeared in her second day in hospital, and then a multiple organ failure took her away from us. It was extremely hard, but at the same time it was nice to see [...]

Not now, Grandma

My dad’s mum has lived with my parents the last 19 years. So basically, until I moved out 4 months ago, I lived with her too. She was admitted in hospital yesterday. A clot in her brain, fluid in her lungs. If you pray, pray for her.
I’ll be away a few days.

Volunteering

I’m so angry I don’t know where to start.
I got a call last week from an NGO I’ve collaborated with before offering my interpreting services for free and later finding out that that congress had a high budget that was spent in fancy catering and paying expensive acomodation to the speakers. That, I didn’t like. [...]

Alexander Technique

As you may or may not know, I am an interpreter. Well, I’m a translator and interpreter, but some day I would like to ditch that first part and work exclusively interpreting. Yeah, girl, keep dreaming. Anyway, when I saw that there was going to be an Alexander Technique course (6 sessions) for Interpreters at [...]

We decided on the entry wall!

This Apartment Therapy Cure has made us more conscious about all the unfinished projects around the house, and the entryhall was a tough one for us. After much thinking we decided not to paint for now. It’d be a waste (in our frugal opinion) to cover perfectly good, clean and nice paint so soon. Maybe [...]

Please, vote

Today so many blogs will speak about it. And despite having an ocean between us and the US, and not being from the US, we’ll be affected by the results of today’s presidential election. So, please, vote. You live in the most powerful country in the world, a country capable of big good things and [...]

The plants in our lives

We’re very happy to anounce that we got our curtains back. We had them cut to size, and it took two months for the nice lady to finish them (because of some misunderstandings…) but they’re back. We’re very happy to hear that, because we really need them! Our home is extremely sunny, and here we [...]

Dos and Don’ts of the No-Spend End of the Year

I know we haven’t been so good reporting about our No-Spend End of the Year, but we have been very good practising it! It’s been over a month now, and we’re 100% on track. I won’t lie, it hasn’t been an easy month. Not at all. But in some aspects, it has been easier than [...]
